FORT BRAGG — Jose Hernandez of Lower Lake got the best of Fort Bragg’s Chris Island this time around, and on Island’s home course no less, during North Central League I cross country action Wednesday at the 3.1-mile Noyo Headlands course on the Mendocino County coast.
Willits also participated in the meet.
When the same three teams squared off a week ago in Willits, it was Island taking first place ahead of Hernandez in the varsity boys race by a 12-second margin. This time around Hernandez beat Island by nearly two minutes, covering the Fort Bragg course in 17 minutes, 46 seconds to Island’s 19:41.
There were no complete boys teams (at least five runners).
Harley Lukenbil of Willits came in third at 21:08, another Willits runner, Daniel LaCount, was fourth in 21:44, and Fort Bragg’s Branden Myers rounded out the top five at 22:33.
Girls
Willits had the only complete team in the girls division where Fort Bragg’s Lillian Bailey topped the field in 23:51. Willits runners Savannah Lewis (23:56) and Nicole Keough (24:16) were the next across the finish line and they were followed by Lower Lake’s Hadia Rippe (27:39) in fourth place and Fort Bragg’s Trinidad Toscano (27:47) in fifth.
Schedule
Lower Lake is scheduled to host Middletown and Roseland University Prep next Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Six Sigma Ranch and Winery course near Lower Lake.
