KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville High School increased the difficulty of its home cross country course, adding an 800-yard uphill stretch at the base of Mount Konocti, during a three-team North Central League I meet attended by Fort Bragg and Cloverdale on Wednesday afternoon at Mountain Vista Middle School.

The 800-yard segment was used in past seasons but was dropped for the Knights’ first home meet last month. First-year coach Bert Olsen said it was back by popular demand.

“Our team wanted to have it back in there,” Olsen said. “They like it.”

Varsity boys

Chris Island of Fort Bragg won the varsity boys race in 21 minutes, 52 seconds while Cloverdale’s Logan Glasson came in second at 22:46. The next four finishers were from Kelseyville, led by Travis Boyles (23:31) and followed across the finish line by Triston Marlowe (23:46), Jason Key (personal-best 24:06), and Kenneth Olsen (24:13). Another Kelseyville runner, Evan Macklin, was eighth overall in 25:05.

“The boys ran a strong race and they all felt good about it,” Olsen said.

Girls

Tylie Hatcher of Cloverdale won the girls race in 27:09. Kelseyville entered two runners but only Summer Anderson finished the race, placing fourth in 34:29. The Knights’ other runner, Ari Fossa, didn’t finish as she stopped to aid a Fort Bragg runner who experienced an asthma attack while on the course.
