UPPER LAKE — Luke Percaccio ran for two touchdowns and LJ Hopkins added another score Saturday afternoon as the Westshore Cardinals beat the Northshore Cougars 20-12 in pee wee youth football action at Upper Lake High School.
Westshore (5-2) struck first on a 40-yard Percaccio run to go up 7-0. Northshore (2-4) answered with its own touchdown to make it a 7-6 game. The Cardinals moved out to a 13-6 lead on Hopkins’ 70-yard run in the second quarter.
The two teams played a scoreless third quarter despite another long run by Hopkins, this one 65 yards. In the fourth quarter, Northshore closed to 13-12 before Percaccio broke free up the middle on a game-clinching 70-yard scoring run that boosted the Cardinals’ lead to 20-12. Anthony Foxx Crespo added the extra point.
Percaccio finished with 154 yards on 11 carries and Hopkins added 143 yards on 12 carries. Both players also had a big day on defense, each finishing with seven tackles.
Other defensive highlights for the Cardinals were middle linebacker MJ Knight’s six tackles, and five tackles and one sack by Crespo.
In other Westshore-Northshore action Saturday, Northshore won junior varsity game 13-0 and the varsity game 40-33.
Westshore’s team have a bye this weekend while Northshore’s teams travel to Lower Lake on Saturday.
