SACRAMENTO— Michael S. Green, 63, of Lakeport, has been appointed to the Lake County Board of Supervisors, District 4 to take the seat vacated by Tina Scott on July 31 of this year.

Green has been a City Councilmember for the City of Lakeport since 2021, where he served on the Planning Commission from 2017 to 2021 and has been a Staff Services Analyst at the Lake County Department of Social Services since 2021. He was President of the Lake County Growers Association from 2016 to 2019, Campaign Treasurer for Yes on Measure A in the City of Fresno in 2018 and Campaign Treasurer for Yes on Measure C in Lake County in 2016. This position does not require Senate confirmation. Green is a Democrat.

California law prohibits individuals from concurrently serving as City Councilmember and County Supervisor (Gov. Code Section 1099).  Therefore, Green intends to resign from his role with the Council. Pursuant to California Government Code section 25060, et seq., Green’s gubernatorial appointment will be effective through the first Monday after Jan. 1, 2025.

“The County of Lake is grateful for Governor Newsom’s attention to this important appointment, and we are taking steps to prepare for Mr. Green to be sworn in Tuesday,” reported Susan Parker, County Administrative Officer.  “We look forward to Mr. Green’s work benefiting all County residents, and particularly those in District 4, and welcome the opportunity to support him in his new role as Supervisor.”

Green said, “I was told the appointment can take three to five months, with this coming in at three months, I’m very happy the Governor took time out of his legislative session to make the appointment.” Green said his top three priorities as supervisor will be catching up on policy work, tending to the various committee assignments and positions that previous Supervisor Scott had filled and diving back into a full board. Green shared he used to be very involved in the county, but since joining Lakeport City Council, he has not paid as close attention to the BOS.

In regard to his now vacant seat on the Lakeport City Council, Green explained that in response to the vacancy left when Turner became the county’s Community Development Director, the council decided to form a pool of potential replacements in case he was appointed to BOS. He added that he feels confident the council will fill the vacancy with ease.

“I have had the good fortune to work with Council Member Green for the past several years,” relates Lakeport City Manager, Kevin Ingram.  “Prior to his two years on the City Council, Michael was a valued Lakeport Planning Commissioner.  Council Member Green is a hard worker.  He’s not afraid to have the tough conversations necessary to ensure local policies are effective, and consider the needs of all affected stakeholders.  He will be missed by the City of Lakeport, and we are proud he will represent the City as District 4’s new County Supervisor.”
