WILLITS — The Willits Wolverines led 39-0 at the half and went on to beat the Lower Lake Trojans 45-0 in North Central League I varsity football action Friday night in Willits.
“We played with a running clock the whole second half,” Lower Lake head coach Jay Jakubowski said.
Willits (3-2 league, 6-2 overall) parlayed a number of big plays into scores, including a pick-six interception and a 90-yard-plus touchdown reception, according to Jakubowski.
“It was a rough one,” Jakubowski said as the Trojans fell to 0-5 in league and 1-7 overall. “We killed ourselves with penalties. We can’t move the ball and it’s painful.”
The extremely physical tone of the game also left a bad taste in Jakubowski’s mouth.
“It was violently physical,” he said of a couple of plays that didn’t draw penalties but probably should have.
“Including one kid who was hauled down by his facemask on the sideline,” Jakubowski said.
Lower Lake will try to regroup next week when it hosts Cloverdale (3-2, 5-3).
Willits also won the junior varsity game (score not reported).
