UKIAH — Hannah Garrity of the Clear Lake High School cross country team ran away from the field to win the girls division of the Yoshanny Invitational on Saturday at Ukiah High School.
Garrity, a junior, completed the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course nearly a full minute ahead of runner-up Jessica Vogel of Skyline High School of Oakland. Garrity crossed the finish line in 21 minutes, 2 seconds to Vogel’s 22:01. Garrity’s time was the second fastest ever recorded on the Ukiah course (the record is 20:37).
Ai-Lin McGoldrick of Arcata finished third in 22:11.
A North Coast Section medalist and state qualifier a year ago, Garrity was the only small-school runner in the 34-girl field.
Clear Lake hosts Middletown and Fort Bragg in a North Central League I tri-meet on Wednesday at Highland Springs. Action begins at 3:30 p.m. The Coastal Mountain Conference Championships follow on Nov. 9 at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa where Garrity is the defending champion.
