LAKEPORT — Five of the six Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League teams advancing to Saturday’s championship games at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport are from Lake County, including Middletown’s pee wee, junior varsity and varsity squads.
Westshore’s pee wees and the Kelseyville varsity are also looking to win league titles as is the Willits JV team.
Action begins at 3:30 p.m. when the Middletown and Westshore pee wee teams square off. The Middletown-Willits JV championship game follows at 5:30 p.m. and the Middletown-Kelseyville varsity championship game at 7:30 p.m.
In the pee wee division, Middletown went 8-0 during the regular season to Westshore’s 6-2. In playoff openers last week, Middletown shut out Lower Lake 33-0 while Westshore beat Sonoma 2-0. Middletown has allowed only six points all season.
Middletown and Westshore met on week four of the regular season, with Middletown prevailing 33-0.
In the JV division, Willits posted a 8-0 mark during the regular season to Middletown’s 6-2. In playoff openers last week, Willits blanked Lower Lake 27-0 while Middletown beat Northshore 14-6.
Willits defeated Middletown 34-20 in week six of the regular season.
In the varsity division, Kelseyville and Middletown both went 8-1 in the regular season. In playoff openers last week, Middletown routed Sonoma 34-0 while Kelseyville avenged its only loss of the season with a 38-8 win over Cloverdale.
Kelseyville beat Middletown 22-16 during week three of the regular season.
