LAKE COUNTY — Lake County’s senior high school athletes have a new scholarship available to them during the 2022-23 sports season.
The Earl Davis Memorial Scholarship will issue scholarships of $500 to one male athlete and one female athlete. The scholarships will be funded by the annual Earl Davis Memorial Softball Tournament, which will take place during the end of September. The inaugural tournament, an eight-team event, was held Sept. 22-23 at County Park where Vice defeated Most Hate 18-6 in the championship game. Between team entry fees, raffle prizes donated by area merchants and T-shirt sales, more than $1,000 was raised.
To be eligible for the scholarship, senior athletes need only be moving onto college and continuing their athletic careers at either two- or four-year institutions. If you would like to apply, simply write a letter explaining why you deserve the scholarship and mail it to Mike Davis, 1650 Mellor Drive, Lakeport, Ca., 95453. The letter should be mailed in early May.
Mike Davis is a 2011 Kelseyville High School graduate who won several county, league and regional honors as a multi-sport athlete for the Knights, including being named the Record-Bee’s 2010-11 male Athlete of the Year. He went on play college baseball for Division I U.C. Riverside. The Earl Davis Memorial Scholarship honors his father.
Merchants donating prizes to the softball tournament raffle were AH General Store of Kelseyville, Oak of Kelseyville, The Mercantile — Shannon Family of Wines — in Lakeport, Napa Auto Parts of Lakeport, Gaslight Grill in Lakeport, Sophie’s Day Spa in Kelseyville, and Precision Window Tint & Vinyls of Lakeport.
