

UPPER LAKE — Undefeated North Central League II girls soccer champion Upper Lake landed nine players on the 2022 All-League team as recently selected by the league’s coaches.
At the top of the list was senior Maddy Young, who received co-most valuable player honors along with Mendocino junior Stevie Lundquist.
Upper Lake won a tight three-team race with Mendocino and Credo to capture the NCL II championship with a 12-0-2 record. The Cougars finished 23-1-2, their only loss coming to St. Bernard of Eureka in the North Coast Section Division 3 finals.
Along with co-MVP Young, Upper Lake’s other first-team selections were seniors Vanessa Lopez-Becerra, Tristin Rhodes and Tatum Salas, and sophomore Ashlyn Rhodes.
Upper Lake also had three second-team selections in senior Kat Lopez-Geary, junior Nya Marcks and sophomore Kali Minnis.
Receiving an honorable mention was junior Jayme Zimmerschied.
Credo, the 2021 league champ, had seven players honored and Mendocino five.
Upper Lake moves up into the NCL I beginning with the 2023 fall season. The Cougars join Middletown, Clear Lake, Lower Lake, Fort Bragg and Willits. Other NCL I schools, including Kelseyville, now play winter soccer.
