UPPER LAKE — Even with their leading scorer on the season being pulled up to the varsity, the Upper Lake High School junior varsity boys basketball team had more than enough firepower to defeat Los Molino 53-27 on Friday in the consolation semifinals of the Maxwell Tournament.
The Cougars (2-3) lost big man Connor Vogel to the struggling varsity squad before Friday’s game. Minus Vogel, Beaux Stiritz (16 points), Delaney Allison (12 points) and Landon Robinson (11 points) helped pick up the slack and then some as Upper Lake scored 31 first-quarter points.
“We called off the dogs early,” Upper Lake coach Thomas Santana said of the one-sided contest.
Upper Lake took a 39-4 lead into halftime.
The Cougars draw the winner of a late Friday game between Williams and Orland in the consolation championship game Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as the tournament wraps up.
