YUBA CITY — Clear Lake High School wrestling team senior captain Liam Davis won all four of his matches to capture the 160-pound weight division Saturday during the Battle for the Buttes Tournament in Yuba City.

The Cardinals brought 11 boys and five girls to the team’s first full-squad tournament of the 2022-23 season. Davis was the only Clear Lake wrestler to win a weight class. He pinned Shane Davenport from Rocklin, currently ranked 34th in the state, in the 160-pound championship match.

Clear Lake’s Asher Reese at 152 pounds and Ayden Williamson at 140 pounds.

Reese went 3-1 during the tournament, including wins in each of his first two matches, before falling into the consolation bracket. Williamson also won his first two matches before taking a loss and battling through the consolation bracket for third place.

Sixth-place finishes went to Tony Gersalia, 3-2 overall, at 182 pounds; to Carson Wikstrom, 3-2 at 195 pounds and wrestling up a weight class; and to Silas Reese, 1-2 overall, at 113 pounds.

Clear Lake’s boys placed sixth out of 27 teams.

Girls

Clear Lake’s top girls finisher was senior Anyssa Perez, who went 3-1 and placed second at 111 pounds.

Fifth-place finishers Jasmine Barrett at 116 pounds and Addyson Munoz at 137 pounds both lost their first matches before reeling off four wins in a row in the consolation bracket.

Clear Lake’s girls placed 12th out of 26 teams.
