KELSEYVILLE — Make that back-to-back Stokes Tournament championships for the Ferndale High School varsity girls basketball team.

Led by most valuable player Kyla Albee and All-Tournament selections Reaghan Langer, Carly Carmesin and Clara Albee, the Wildcats completed a 3-0 sweep of their Stokes competition Saturday by beating the Lower Lake Trojans 46-10 in the early girls game.
Ferndale (8-1) scored the game’s first eight points while rolling to a 16-4 first quarter lead. The Wildcats held Lower Lake (2-7) scoreless in both the second and fourth quarters.
Unhappy with the officiating, Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs wasn’t around for the final period and change as he picked up two technical fouls and was ejected with 13.3 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Carmesin had a big game for Ferndale as she finished with 24 points, including the team’s final nine points in the second quarter and the Wildcats’ first two points in the third quarter. Langer added 12 points and Kyla Albee six.
Ferndale’s second straight Stokes title came without one of its top players on the court as senior point guard Emily Chavez was unavailable to the Wildcats during the tournament.
Ferndale is the defending North Coast Section Division 6 champion.
Lower Lake All-Tournament selection Tiahna Tubbs led the Trojans with six points and Penelope Stark-Sully had the other four.

Upper Lake 65, Kelseyville 33
Upper Lake (8-1) clinched second place in the Stokes girls standings with a win over Kelseyville (1-10) in the early girls game Saturday.
The Cougars jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Kelseyville finally scored on Olivia Hommer’s mid-range jumper with 3:42 left in the first quarter, the Knights’ only points in the opening period.
Upper Lake’s starters staked the team to a 22-2 lead before the Cougars began to empty their bench in the second quarter. Even with their reserves on the floor, the Cougars were able to increase their lead to 38-10 by halftime.

Kelseyville’s young squad fared better in the second half against a rotating combination of Upper Lake starters and reserves. The Cougars outscored the Knights 27-23 over the final two quarters.
“There was improvement and that’s what we’re looking for,” Kelseyville head coach Terry McIntire said. “We played much better in the second half.”
All-Tournament selection Taylar Minnis led the Cougars with 20 points while Nya Marcks added 12 and Madison Noble and Jayme Zimmerschied 11 apiece. Noble joined Minnis on the All-Tournament team.

Hommer and Lilly Wiser had eight points apiece for Kelseyville and All-Tournament selection Mikaylah Meyer finished with six. Meyer also won the 3-point contest held later in the evening.
“That was awesome for Mikaylah,” McIntire said.
Upper Lake’s only loss during Stokes action and so far this season was a 54-38 setback to Ferndale on Friday. The Cougars were without senior guard Maddy Young in that game because of her involvement with the school’s wrestling team. She placed second over the weekend in the 131-pound division at the West Coast TOC in Sacramento.
