HAMILTON CITY >> Trailing 24-23 at halftime, the Kelseyville Knights parlayed a 18-7 third quarter into a 48-37 win over Hamilton City in non-league varsity boys basketball action Monday night in Hamilton City.
“We played better defense in the second half and were playing better together as a team,” Kelseyville head coach Oscar Lopez said. “We were sloppy in the first half and had too many turnovers.”
Manny Acosta scored five of his team-leading 13 points in the third quarter and Kyle Watkins had five of his 10 in the period as the Knights (6-5) pushed ahead 41-31.
Kelseyville played well on the boards with Luke Watkins leading the way with 10 rebounds while Adolfo Arias and Kyle Watkins had six apiece.
“Those three did a good job controlling the boards,” Lopez said.
Kelseyville hosts Fortuna (8-4) on Wednesday night to close out its preseason schedule. Junior varsity action tips off at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow. After that, the Knights are off until Jan. 3 when they resume North Central League I play at home against Fort Bragg. Kelseyville won its first two league games earlier this month.
The Knights also beat Hamilton City in the junior varsity game. The final score wasn’t reported.
