BRENTWOOD — Asher Reese of the Clear Lake High School wrestling team earned an eight-place medal at 152 pounds on Friday as the Lou Bronzan Invitational wrapped up at Liberty High School in Brentwood.
Reese and Liam Davis, 160-pounder, were the only two Cardinals to advance past Thursday’s opening rounds. Reese went 3-1 on Thursday, his only loss coming in his second match where a controversial headlock turned into a pin. He came back to win his next two matches and punch his ticket into Friday’s final rounds. On Friday, he won each of his first two matches before losing his third, which dropped him into the seventh-place match. He lost that by decision.
Davis went 2-1 on Thursday, dropping a close decision in his first match before answering with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket. He lost his first match Friday and was eliminated from the tournament.
Also winning matches Thursday were Silas Reese, who went 1-2 at 106 pounds and, Schad Schweitzer, who went 1-2 at 138 pounds.
Clear Lake’s girls were in action Thursday at the Brittany David Invitational, also held at Liberty High School.
Anyssa Perez and Addyson Munoz both went 2-2, Sophia Percaccio went 1-1, and Hannah Garrity went 1-2, her first high school win.
