LAKEPORT— Lake County welcomed its first-born resident of 2023 at 5:44 a.m. on Monday January 2. Born at Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport to parents Kayla Ewing and Cody Boyd as well as an older brother, Xander Joe Boyd weighed 7 pounds, 6 and a half ounces and measured 20 inches long. Receiving a clean bill of health and passing his tests, the newly expanded family was able to return home to relax the very next day.
Ewing and Boyd reside in Lucerne and have been living in Lake County for 14 and 20 years respectively. Ewing was born in Santa Rosa but has lived all over before settling in lake. This is the couple’s second son with Ewing stating “It was definitely a New Year’s blessing.” Further sharing some of her maternity story Ewing explained that this birth was different, calling it a “crazy experience” as she went in to pre-term labor at 32 weeks in November and was admitted to Santa Rosa Hospital for four weeks. Ewing noted “He stayed cooking, I came home and had him the day after his actual due date.”
Sutter Lakeside Hospital was prepared for the occasion with a fully loaded New Year’s Baby basket. Meagan Gard with Sutter Lakeside shared that the basket was comprised of a diaper bag, swaddles, bibs, a onesie and matching hat, soap, candles, books, toys, pacifiers and gift cards to local businesses. The basket was sponsored by Sutter Lakeside Hospital and local businesses Studio 127, Overflow Coffee, Mother-Wise, Oak Boutique and A+H General Store.
According to a recent publication in USA Today written by Clare Mulroy, January 1 is actually one of the least common birthdays coming in at 364 on the list of most common birthdays. Behind the first is Christmas (December 25) and Leap Day (February 29) as it only exists once every four years. Mulroy notes how cesarian sections are not scheduled on holidays, and that hospital staff is also slim at these times concluding in less births on these major holidays.
