SACRAMENTO — Nine member of the Gladiator Wrestling Club of Lake County closed out calendar year 2022 in style Dec. 31 during the “No Guts, No Glory” tournament at Natomas High School in Sacramento.

“Perfect way to end the year by laying it on the line at Natomas High,” said coach Brandon Whittle, who added he was “impressed with the effort” each of his wrestlers gave on the mat.

Nevaeah Barocio had the club’s top finish with a second in her weight class. Her sister, Laylony Barocio, added one of four third-place medals won by the Gladiators. The others went to Logun Whittle, Tyler Thorstenson and Riley Givens.

Placing fourth were Branson Whittle, Hector Barocio, Crystal Pepper and Jacky Gudino.

“The kids are showing great improvement considering the competition they were up against,” Whittle said. “I’m excited to see what their future holds in the wrestling world. For a young club it’s really impressive to see the kids want it like they do.”

The Gladiators’ next action is Jan. 15 at the Mountain Clash in Concord.
