
NAPA — Upper Lake High School freshman 152-pounder Lexy Peregrina ended up with the sixth-place medal Saturday as the 23rd annual Napa Valley Girls Classic wrestling tournament drew to a close in Napa.
The No. 8 seed in her weight class, Peregrina won her first two matches Friday to reach the quarterfinals where she was pinned by the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state, Mikayla Lancaster of Gregori High School of Modesto. Lancaster went on to win the tournament.
Peregrina battled her way through the consolation bracket to eventually reach the fifth-place match, which she dropped to Cora Cost of Lowell High School by 5-1 decision. She finished the tournament, the most prestigious in the state outside of the CIF State Championships, with a 4-3 record.
Salas, the No. 3 seed at 128 pounds, also won her first two matches Friday to reach the quarterfinals against Mikayla Marquez of Castro Valley. Marquez won by second-round fall.
Salas ended up just short of the medal round, placing eighth with a 4-2 record.
Clear Lake
The Clear Lake Cardinals sent three wrestlers to Napa and Addyson Munoz at 137 pounds was the only one to reach the second day of the tournament. She just missed bringing home a medal, finishing 4-2.
