KELSEYVILLE — Freshman Madeline Borghesani scored three times and senior Guadalupe Fernandez added two more goals Thursday night as the Kelseyville High School girls soccer team won its first North Central League I game, shutting out the Cloverdale Eagles 8-0 at Kelseyville.
Though their natural turf field was muddy after nearly two straight weeks of rain, Kelseyville head coach Patrick Mick said the Knights (1-2 league, 2-3 overall) were happy to get in a game between storms as more rain is forecast for Friday and into the weekend.
Kelseyville made the most of the break in the weather, scoring four goals in each half. Six of those goals were scored by freshmen, which is one thing the Knights have plenty of this season — 15 of their 19 players are ninth-graders.
“We’re gonna be getting good the next couple of years,” Mick said. “Madeline was definitely our player of the game.”
Regina Rico, Angelina Vazquez and Jocelyn Olea also scored goals for the Knights, who led 4-0 at the half. Vazquez had four assists to go along with her goal.
“Our keeper touched the ball only four times,” Mick said. “I was able to play all my reserves.”
Kelseyville hosts Healdsburg in a non-league game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
