UPPER LAKE — Landon Robinson scored 10 of his team-leading 26 points in the third quarter as the Upper Lake High School junior varsity boys basketball team beat Grace Academy of Santa Rosa 59-24 in a North Central League II game on Friday evening in Upper Lake.
“We’re starting to pick up some steam without Connor (Vogel),” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said of his former big man who is now playing with the Cougars’ varsity squad. “We were playing large-man ball, now we’re playing small ball.”
Upper Lake (3-0 league, 7-7 overall) broke the game open in the third quarter after taking a 21-12 lead into halftime.
“We pressed and that’s Landon’s bread and butter,” Santana said. “He had a bunch of steals.”
Those steals turned into easy layups for Robinson and the Cougars, who scored 21 points in the third quarter to pull away.
“He had like six points in three seconds,” Santana said of Robinson.
Jerod Rosales added 10 points as well as some solid play on the boards and on the defensive end, according to Santana.
“He was rebounding real well for us,” Santana said.
Adam Moran’s defense was another positive, according to Santana.
“He came in and made a difference,” Santana said. “He disrupts things.”
Upper Lake returns to action Monday at home against Lower Lake in non-league action, part of a four-game set between the two schools. Tip-off is 3:30 p.m.
