UPPER LAKE — Jett Guralas scored 12 points, one of four Lower Lake players to reach double figures, and the senior nearly had as many assists Monday night as the Trojans overpowered the Upper Lake Cougars 80-29 in a non-league varsity boys basketball game in Upper Lake.

Guralas dunked to cap a fastbreak in the third quarter as the Trojans evened their season record at 8-8.

“He passed the ball phenomenally and he also played great defense,” Lower Lake head coach Blaine Amos said of Guralas.

Dylan Sherman scored a team-best 18 points, Micah Gurule added 16 and Buddy Felder 15 as the Trojans set the tone with a 28-10 first quarter. They led 51-16 at halftime.

“We were playing as a team, even overpassing the ball at times,” Amos said. “I’m proud of them. They stepped up to the challenge.”

“We gave up 40 points worth of fastbreak layups and kept throwing the ball away at halfcourt,” Upper Lake head coach Miles Hayes said of the Cougars’ long night on the court.

Robert Rosin’s 12 points led Upper Lake (5-10). Darian Loans Arrow and Connor Vogel each had five.

Lower Lake resumes its North Central League I schedule Tuesday night in St. Helena. Upper Lake is off until Friday when it hosts Calistoga in NCL II action.

In the junior varsity game, Upper Lake used a big third quarter to snap a 15-all halftime tie and beat the Lower Lake Trojans 45-24.

“We went on a run in the third quarter to get us ahead,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said.

Delaney Allison and Jerod Rosales scored 12 points apiece to power the Cougars and Allison also led the team with four blocked shots. Landon Robinson added 11 points.
