LOOMIS — Upper Lake High School wrestlers Maddy Young at 133 pounds and Lexy Peregrina at 152 pounds both came away with second-place medals Saturday from the 10th annual Lady Eagles Invite at Del Oro High School in Loomis.
Seeded No. 2 in their respective weight classes, Young and Peregrina ended up losing to the No. 1 seeds in the finals. Young, a senior, was pinned by Aneka Mathews of Reed in the second round while Peregrina, a freshman, was pinned by Avangeline Turner of Davis, also in the second round.
Young advanced to the finals with a first-round bye, a win by fall over Adrian Farren of Galt in the quarterfinals, and a 6-1 win over Olivia Munoz of Novato in the semifinals.
Peregrina also received a first-round bye. She pinned Ashlweign Cavender of Ponderosa in the quarterfinals and won a 8-0 major decision against Kate Luzuriaga of Del Oro High School in the semifinals.
Upper Lake returns to action Wednesday during a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet in Lower Lake. St. Helena is also participating. Upper Lake’s girls travel to the Goddess of the Vine tournament next Saturday in Windsor.
