FOLSOM — Joey Gentle and Tyler Bryant of Kelseyville High School teamed to lead the Lake County High School Fishing Club to a first-place finish Sunday during the Folsom Northern Region Bass Tournament at Lake Folsom.

The event was sponsored by the Vista Del Lago High School Fishing Club.

Gentle and Bryant brought a five-fish limit to the weigh scales for a winning total of 16.11 pounds. Anchoring their catch was a 4.82-pounder, the second biggest fish caught during the tournament. They were one of nine teams in the 29-team field to catch a five-fish limit.

Zane Ravalin and Troy Cox of the Oakdale Fishing Club came in second with 15.722 pounds while third-place honors went to Phillip Bobbitt and Declan Decot of East County Student Anglers with 15.11 pounds, including the tournament’s big fish of 4.96 pounds.

Among the other teams present were the San Joaquin Bassmasters, Lodi High School, Big Valley High School Anglers, Del Oro High School Fishing Club and Alhambra Bulldogs Bassin.

Six teams brought 10 or more pounds to the weigh scales.

Next up for the high school clubs is the Clear Lake Northern Region hosted by the Lake County High School Fishing Club on March 5. That will be followed by the Delta MLF, a national qualifier on March 18 based out of Russo’s Marina.

In addition to their fishing prowess, Gentle, a senior, and Bryant, a sophomore, are standout multi-sport athletes at Kelseyville High School.
