LAKE COUNTY
Special Olympics’ annual Polar Plunge on February 25
Lake County Special Olympics is excited to once again be planning our annual Polar Plunge which is scheduled for Feb. 25, 2023.
What is a Polar Plunge?
The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Lake County athletes by jumping into icy, cold Clear Lake on Feb. 25, 2023. The Plunge is not a swim, it is a fundraiser! Plungers must raise a minimum of $125 in donations to participate. Don’t want to dip but still want to help? Register as a “chicken” and you’ll be excused from plunging.
How to register
Participants can register and set up their own personal or team web page at LakeCountyPolarPlunge.com. You can then email family, friends and coworkers to support your plunge. $125 earns you a Polar Plunge long sleeved t-shirt and free admittance to the post Plunge party. More incentive prizes are received at higher levels of donations. Don’t worry, people registered as chickens receive all the same prizes.
Why take the plunge?
Special Olympics provides year round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities FOR FREE! By participating in Special Olympics, athletes gain self-confidence and self-esteem that carries over into their everyday lives, giving them the opportunity to be a contributing member in our local community. All money raised will support local Lake County athletes. This is our only source of funding, we receive no government dollars.
Schedule of Events Feb. 25, 2023
Registration: 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Costume contest: 11:45am

Senator McGuire fights to eliminate state taxes on Kincade Fire PG&E settlements
Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire introduced legislation this week that would ensure survivors of the devastating 2019 Kincade Fire will be exempt from paying state income taxes on settlement awards from PG&E. The 2019 fire, which was sparked by a faulty PG&E transmission line, forced nearly 100,000 people to flee, and destroyed 174 homes.
“The Kincade Fire was massive and horribly destructive. Hundreds of neighbors lost everything. PG&E victimized these survivors once, they shouldn’t have to suffer again,” said McGuire. “The guts of this bill are simple, but incredibly important: The legislation would eliminate all state taxes on Kincade Fire PG&E settlement funds putting millions back into the pockets of deserving survivors.”
PG&E has estimated liabilities as high as $800 million for personal damage claims which are wrapped up in a settlement case in front of the courts. SB 370 will ensure that once payments are finally awarded in connection with the 2019 Kincade Fire, wildfire victims will be exempt from paying state personal income and corporation taxes on their settlement claim.
The legislation is co-authored by Senator Dodd and Assemblymembers Wood and Connolly.
