Redwood Credit Union hosted its highly anticipated truck giveaway on Sunday, February 5 at a block party at its Lower Lake branch.
Alexandra Villalobos Valencia won the Toyota Tacoma valued at $44,000 and was overjoyed to receive the keys to her new vehicle. While only one finalist walked away with the truck, all finalists went home with prizes including a television, Apple Watch, $500 gift certificate, and more, making the event a win for everyone involved.
“Congratulations to Alexandra, the lucky winner of our truck giveaway,” said Brett Martinez, President and CEO of Redwood Credit Union. “We are thrilled to have such a fantastic response from our members in Lake County. This event is just a small token of our immense gratitude and a testament to our unwavering commitment to provide exceptional service to this community. At RCU, we take pride in everything we do, and our commitment to Lake County remains stronger than ever.”
More than 2,800 entries were received from Lake County residents who became a new member of RCU, referred a friend, or applied for a loan between July 5, 2022 and Jan. 21, 2023. Ten finalists were selected at random, and they had to be present at the block party to win.
The block party included games, entertainment, a food truck, and prizes, and it was enjoyed by locals and RCU employees alike.

High School students pass Certified Tourism Ambassador test
Noisemakers, balloons, and cupcakes from Crazy Quilt Farms were all part of the celebration on Feb. 10, 2023, as the first class of high school students in the nation became Lake County Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTAs).
Tina Scott, the new career technical education, food service, and hospitality teacher at Clear Lake High School and a Certified Tourism Ambassador, added the CTA Certification Training into her curriculum. The Certification Class taught students Lake County history and facts, itinerary building for Lake County visitors, and customer service skills.
All of this will serve students well as they begin to develop resumes and complete college and job applications.
Volunteering at CTA or other community events, proudly wearing their CTA Star lapel pins, will connect the new student CTAs to business leaders and potential employers. Their training and volunteer work will set them apart from others, while reinforcing the pride for the place they call home.
Certified Tourism Ambassadors, Michele Carson (Chair of the CTA Program), Jacie Casteel, Joe Casteel, Helen Finch, and Holly Hansen along with Clear Lake High School Principal Micahel Arredondo, and Assistant Principal Liesl Hendrix joined Scott in celebrating the students on this great achievement. Carson presented each student with a CTA Certificate and a CTA Star lapel pin.
Congratulations to Sophya, Madison, Madysin, Nikki, Sophie, Sophia, Enrique, Gabrielle, Adrian, Jules, and Cassidy on completing their training and passing their certification exams. They will represent Lake County well!
The next CTA Certification Class will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 9 am at Lake Event Design in Lakeport. To register, go to www.ctanetwork.com and click on “proceed to activate your account.”
