The Harbor on Main hosts NEA Big Read teen events
The Harbor Youth Resource Center of Redwood Community Services, also known as The Harbor on Main, is scheduled to host three NEA Big Read events for Lake County youth in partnership with the Lake County Library. Local teens and young adults are invited to participate in book discussions, and a creative writing workshop to write original work inspired by the NEA Big Read book, Postcolonial Love Poem, or their own stories.
Free copies of the book are available at all county library branches. The free book discussions and the writing workshop will take place as follows:
Youth Book Club with The Harbor on Main
Monday March 6, 4 pm to 5:30 pm

Teens and young adults are invited to generate new creative writing inspired by the Big Read book choice.

Located in Lakeport, the Harbor Youth Resource Center is a place where transition-age youth can find supports and services to help them move from adolescence to adulthood successfully. Available programs provide education support, housing navigation, peer mentorship, health and well-being, employment workshops and more. These centers focus particularly on resources and services that promote opportunities to engage youth as partners and provide youth the opportunity to develop the real-life skills necessary to succeed as community citizens and workers.

The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, which seeks to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The NEA Big Read showcases a diverse range of contemporary titles that reflect many different voices and perspectives, aiming to inspire conversation and discovery.

WIC appointments by phone available
WIC has generous income guidelines. For example, a family of four can have a yearly gross income of $51,338 or monthly income of up to $4,279 and still be eligible for the health benefits of the WIC program. Due to COVID-19, WIC is doing appointments by phone in efforts to keep our families and staff safe and healthy. WIC families also have the option to complete their appointment online at wichealth.org, via doxy.me video, or in person as needed.
WIC participants can enjoy more Fruits and Vegetables on WIC, now through September 30, 2023! WIC’s benefits for fruits and vegetable have been temporarily increased to: • $25 per month for children • $44 per month for pregnant and non-breastfeeding participants • Up to $49 per month for breastfeeding participants.

Precision agriculture in the digital era: Recent adoption on U.S. farms
Webinar hosted by USDA’s Economic Research Service
USDA’s Economic Research Service will host a webinar on the Precision Agriculture in the Digital Era: Recent Adoption on U.S. Farms report Thursday, March 9th at 1 p.m. ET.
Digital agriculture may be a part of the solution to challenges facing U.S. agriculture, including rising production costs, climate change, and labor shortages, among others.
During this webinar, ERS Research Economist Jonathan McFadden will present an overview of the report, which documents trends in the U.S. farm sector’s adoption of digital agriculture technologies between 1996 and 2019, with emphasis on changes since 2016, using data from USDA’s Agricultural Resource Management Survey.
