CLEARLAKE OAKS — In a game tied 5-5 after two innings, Mountain Vista Middle School pulled away to beat Konocti Middle School 14-6 in softball action on a windy Monday afternoon in Clearlake Oaks.

“They came to play and we weren’t ready,” Konocti head coach Luis Perez said.

Konocti pitcher Aly Aguirre struggled with her control from the outset as her wildness helped Mountain Vista score five times in the top of the first inning. While the Rams came back with a five-run inning of their own in the bottom of the second to tie it, Mountain Vista regained the lead in the top of the third and never looked back.

Aguirre allowed only four hits and struck out six but worked from behind in the count most of the game and ended up walking in a handful of Mountain Vista runs.

“She struggled to find the zone,” Perez said.

Konocti’s defense committed a handful of costly errors behind Aguirre.

“It just wasn’t our day,” Perez said. “But I’m glad we got to see them, they’re a good team. I think we’ll do better the next time we play.”

The two teams meet again April 27 in Kelseyville.

While Aguirre didn’t have her best day as a pitcher, she did score Konocti’s first run after blasting a solo homer to left field. Teammate Brooklyn Tubbs, the Rams’ shortstop, added a hit and a RBI. Eden Sparks, Kiersten Lambert and Maddy Garner also had hits.

Konocti, now 4-3 on the season, returns to action Thursday in Middletown

Mountain Vista statistics were not reported.
