WILLITS — Middletown High School’s young tennis team came away with a 3-2 Coastal Mountain Conference tennis victory over the Willits Wolverines on Monday afternoon in Willits.
“We’re building for the future,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said. “We had 10 seniors on the team last year. This year we have younger players who don’t have a lot of experience.”
Seth Watson, playing only his second singles match of the season, won 6-3, 6-4 in first singles while Hannah Ryan prevailed 6-3, 6-3 in second singles, notching her first victory of the year.
“She was pretty excited,” Hart said of Ryan.
Middletown picked up its third win in first doubles where Anthony Lopez and Maddie Hansen won 9-7, 6-2. Instead of playing a tiebreaker with the first set tied at 6-6, the two teams played on, according to Hart.
Willits rallied to win 3-6, 6-3, 15-13 in third singles and took the second doubles match by forfeit.
Middletown, now 3-5 on the season, hosts Cloverdale on Tuesday before hitting the road Friday to play Anderson Valley in Boonville.
