Lower Lake boys edge M’town; M’town girls, frosh-soph boys win big

LOWER LAKE — In a great battle that went down to the wire, the Lower Lake High School varsity boys tracked team edged Middletown 120-119 during the Lake County Meet on Monday afternoon at Lower Lake High School.

Middletown dominated the field in both the girls and frosh-soph boys divisions.

Varsity boys

Led by double-event winners Leslie Johnson (200 meters, 400) and Jose Hernandez (1,600, 3,200), the Trojans dominated the running events in the varsity boys field, taking firsts in the the 100 (Budda Jones), 200, 400, 1,600, 3,200 and 4×100 relay (Jevon Donnell, Budda Jones, Charles Jones and Johnson) while also finishing second in the 800 (Hernandez).

Lower Lake picked up another first in the long jump where Stephen Felder cleared a personal-best 18 feet, 4 ½ inches to beat out Middletown’s Nadav Dicovski (17-9 ½). Dicovski certainly racked up the points for Middletown with seconds in the long jump, 200 and 400 and a dominating victory in the triple jump where he cleared 40 feet, 9 inches, more than two feet ahead of Lower Lake’s Felder, who set a personal-best with his 38-4 mark for second place.

Besides Dicovski’s win in the triple jump, other Middletown first-place finishers were Javed Calvin, first in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, Oscar Cruz in the shotput and Baron Chang in the pole vault.

Kelseyville winners were Evan Macklin in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 16.20 seconds, Alex Forham in the high jump at 4-8, and the Kelseyville 4×400 relay team of Antonio Villa-Gomez, Ivan Villa-Gomez, Kenneth Olson and Joshua Fossa.

For Clear Lake, Pedro Post won the discus with a toss of 81-2.

Kelseyville finished third in team scoring with 96 points to Clear Lake’s 25 and Upper Lake’s 16.

Girls

Double-event winners in the girls division were Middletown’s Makayla Mace in the 100 (13.91) and 100 hurdles 19.79), Clear Lake’s Hannah Garrity in the 1,600 (5:39.91) and 3,200 (12:25.44), and Kelseyville’s Elizabeth Walker in the high jump (4-4) and long jump (14-8)

Middletown’s Amanda Hart and Clear Lake’s Kaylah Billig traded first- and second-place finishes in the shotput and discus, with Hart winning the shotput at 31-6 to Billig’s 28-3 ½, and Billig winning the discus at 88-0 to Hart’s 86-11.

Other single-event winners were Mary Watson of Lower Lake in the 200, Upper Lake’s Maddy Young in the 400, Middletown’s Cat Barriga in the 800, Middletown’s Skylar Williams in the 300 hurdles, and Lower Lake’s Gabby Pelcastre in the triple jump.

Lower Lake also finished first in the 4×100 relay as Watson, Pelcastre, Yamilet Saucedo and Maya Holland teamed up for the win. The 4×400 relay went to the Middletown team of Barriga, Sophie Yebra, Nicole Pyzer and Jenna Tufo.

Frosh-soph

Clear Lake’s Nolan Ewing won the 200 (26.51), 400 (1:01.48) and high jump (4-6) in the frosh-soph division.

Daniel Mora-Lopez of Lower Lake posted victories in the 1,600 (5:41.45) and 3,200 (12:40.44) while Middletown’s Jay-J Gerst took firsts in the shotput (36.4 ¾) and discus (86-0).

Other event winners were Fidel Alvaarez-Ramos of Lower Lake in the 100, Richard Ramos of Middletown in the 800, Bryan Sanchez of Middletown in the 110 hurdles, Bryton Caviness of Middletown in the pole vault, and Adam Moran of Upper Lake in the long jump.

Schedule

Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Upper Lake return to action Wednesday in a Coastal Mountain Conference meet in Willits. In other action Wednesday, Middletown visits Fort Bragg while Lower Lake hosts Calistoga and St. Helena. Meets begin at 3:30 p.m.
