KPFZ temporarily off the air due to unknown causes
Lake County Community Radio, KPFZ, 88.1 FM, is off the air due to as yet unknown causes.
Currently, there is no estimate for return to normal on-air programming.
Weather related damage and possibly major equipment failures are believed to have contributed to the
loss of our ability to broadcast. A technical team of volunteers is making progress in diagnosing the
problem and will soon provide a report and path forward.
Listeners are encouraged to use the live streaming function to hear their favorite music and talk shows.

The all-volunteer, non-commercial community radio station is host to a diverse collection of music and
one-of-a-kind talk show programs primarily focusing on local community issues.

California invested $1.3 billion in nearly 19,500 climate projects in 2022
California has released the annual report for California Climate Investments, which in 2022 implemented nearly 19,500 new projects through $1.3 billion in funding, with $933 million directly benefiting disadvantaged communities and low‑income communities and households.
In 2022, 74% of investments – almost $1 billion – supported communities and households facing greater economic and environmental challenges. The 2022 investments are expected to cut 10.4 million metric tons of pollution over the course of the projects.
The state has invested more than $9.3 billion under this program statewide since 2014, which has:
- Planted more than 20 million trees in urban and wildland areas
- Conserved or restored 891,000 acres of land
- Funded 10,300 affordable housing units
- Implemented 1,060 projects expanding or creating new transit services
- Supported employment opportunities with over 21,300 jobs
- Issued more than 427,500 rebates for zero‑emission or plug‑in hybrid vehicles
Along with the report, the California Air Resources Board also released Legislative District Fact Sheets and updates to the Project Map, interactive Story Map and Data Dashboard. New Project Profiles also highlight narrative stories for individual projects.

Local author signing at Lake County libraries
Local author Kit DeCanti has been thrilling readers with her Cobb Mountain Mystery Series since 2009. The series finale, Cobb MT-JOURNEYS END, is now available from Amazon. Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigates inmate who passed away in their custody
On April 15, 2023, inmate Jason Ray, 41, in the care and custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, passed away while being treated for a medical condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Placer County.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office activated the critical incident protocol and has begun an investigation into the in custody death. Ray was in custody pending prosecution for sexual assault. Additional details will be forthcoming as the investigation is ongoing.

Spring update from the CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit
The CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit (LNU) is announcing changes to its current firefighting staffing
levels while also supplying information on residential burning and our storm-related emergency response over the winter. Peak staffing levels are not expected until the summer, dependent on resource needs to match fire conditions.

LNU responded to 6,343 total incidents between Jan. 1 through March 31, an increase of 28 percent for incident response compared to the previous five-year average for the first three months of a year (LNU averaged 4,957 incidents from January-March between 2018-22).
LNU crews responded to increased storm-related emergencies and provided critical services, demonstrating their commitment to public service and community support.
Residential landscape burning status
Currently, in the State Responsibility Area (SRA) where CAL FIRE has jurisdictional authority, burning is allowed across the unit. Burn permits will begin being issued on or after May 1. Applications can be submitted online at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov
