FORT BRAGG — Middletown High School’s track and field athletes scored a handful of firsts and personal-best marks during a Coastal Mountain Conference meet Wednesday afternoon in Fort Bragg.
Other teams competing were Cloverdale, Anderson Valley, Mendocino, Sonoma Academy, Laytonville and host Fort Bragg.
Varsity boys
Middletown event winners in the varsity boys division were Oscar Cruz in the shotput at 39 feet, 5 ½ inches and Jackson Graham in the discus at 112-11, both personal-best marks. Bryton Caviness and Baron Chang tied for first place in the pole vault, each clearing 9-6 (a personal best for Chang), and Nadav Dicovski set another personal best by clearing 19 feet even to win the long jump.
Jacob Urbina added a second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 37-5.
Bryan Sanchez finished third in three events – the 110-meter hurdles (20.6 seconds), the 300 hurdles (57.4) and the pole vault (9-0). He set personal bests in the 300 hurdles and pole vault.
Girls
Middletown swept the distance events in the girls division as Jenna Tufo won the 800 in a personal best 2 minutes, 46.5 seconds; Nicole Pyzer won the 1,600 in 5:59; and Sophie Yebra won the 3,200 in a personal-best 14:11.
The Mustangs also took a handful of seconds and thirds. Seconds went went to Sofia Rivera in the 200 (31.0) and triple jump (27-8), to Tufo in the 1,600 (personal-best 6:10), to Issy Barriga in the 3,200 (personal-best 14:24), to Mikayla Mace in the 100 hurdles (personal-best 19.4), to Amdana Hart in the shotput (personal-best 32-4 ½), to Skylar Williams (personal-best 4-0) and Deisi Perez (4-0), who tied for second in the high jump, and to Mace and Cat Barriga, who tied for second in the pole vault, both with personal bests of 7-0.
Middletown’s 4×100 relay team of Rivera, Mace, Yebra and Williams also finished second in 1:00.
Thirds went to Bailey Smith in the 200 (31.6), to Yebra in the 1,600 (personal-best 6:31), and to Williams in the 300 hurdles (1:00).
Frosh-soph
In the frosh-soph boys division, Middletown standouts included Richard Ramos, third in the 1,600 (5:50); Caden Gotz, third in the 3,200 (personal-best 14:07); Dominik Jensen, third in the shotput (personal-best 34 2 ¾); and Aiden Cadwallader, third in the pole vault (personal-best 6-0).
