MIDDLETOWN — It wasn’t only the weather that was warming up Wednesday afternoon in Middletown. Mountain Vista’s bats were on fire, too.
Winning pitcher Vanessa Reyes homered twice and drove in six runs as the Lancers’ middle school softball team beat Middletown 20-7 at Middletown High School. Reyes finished the day 3-for-3 as did Gemma Lewis, who knocked in three runs.
Joining Mountain Vista’s hitting parade were Grace Hobbs (2-for-2, RBI), Josie Keithly (2-for-3, RBI), Gabby Keyes (1-for-1, RBI) and Meghan Renfro (1-for-1, RBI).
“We were all about the bats today,” Mountain Vista head coach Huey Lewis said. “I’m very impressed with the girls’ ability to drive in runs, not just sit and wait.”
Mountain Vista closes out its regular season Thursday at home against Konocti. Both teams figure to draw high seeds next week when the Lake County Junior High Athletic League championship tournament takes place at Middletown High School. The top two seeds receive byes in the three-day day tournament, which opens May 4 and runs through May 6.
Mountain Vista beat Konocti 14-6 when the teams met earlier this season at East Lake Elementary School in Clearlake Oaks.
