It was senior day Thursday afternoon as the Clear Lake Cardinals played Middletown in their final home game of the regular season and while the team honored seniors (above, from left) Liam Orr, Michael Freese and Greyson Wind, the day was mostly a tribute to the one person who couldn’t be there, former head coach Ed Pepper, who died on March 16 as the team was about to open play in the Fort Bragg Tournament. Family members Evie Sabini and Zoey Pepper were each presented with flowers and autographed team baseballs. Andy Sabini, Evie’s dad, also paid tribute to Pepper with a personalized T-shirt. Ed Pepper was certainly there in spirit and you can bet he’ll be rooting his team on Tuesday when it travels to Rohnert Park to play Technology in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs.
