SANTA ROSA — Six Lake County athletes, five of them from Middletown High School, are headed to the North Coast Section Meet of Champions following their performances Saturday during the North Coast Section Track and Field Championships at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.

In the varsity boys division, senior Nadav Dicovski of Middletown broke the school record in the triple jump for the second time this season while placing second in the event, and teammates Bryan Sanchez and Bryton Caviness qualified in the pole vault, finishing second and third, respectively.

In the varsity girls division, Kelseyville’s Elizabeth Walker also placed second in the triple jump while Middletown’s Amber Hart qualified in two events, taking third in both the discus and shotput. Also making the MOC cut was Middletown’s Nicole Pyzer, who was third in the pole vault.

Varsity boys

Dicovski cleared 43 feet, 4 ½ inches in the triple jump, topping his previous best of 43-3 ¾ earlier this season. Only Carl Nunes of St. Bernard’s (Eureka) had a better mark, 43-7 ½. Third place with 40-8 ½ was James-Paul Miller of Technology (Rohnert Park).

Sanchez’s runner-up mark of 10 feet even in the pole vault marks put him in the MOC for the second year in a row. Caviness finished at 9-6 for third place and Baron Chang of Middletown was fourth in 8-0.

Dicovski added a fifth-place finish in the long jump (19-8 ¾). Another fifth went to Middletown’s Oscar Cruz in the shotput (39-11). Middletown’s Jackson Graham came in sixth in the discus (112-04).

Other top finishes belonged to Cruz, eighth in the discus (personal-best 110-8); Dicovski, ninth in the high jump (5-4); and to Middletown’s Evan Macklin, 10th in the 800 meters (personal-best 2 minutes, 10.86 seconds).

Girls

Kelseyville’s Walker earned second place in the girls triple jump with a personal-best 33-11 ½ effort, finishing behind winner Madelyn Shanahan of St. Bernard’s (Eureka) at 34-9.

Hart, the only county athlete to qualify for the MOC in two events, had third-place throws in the shotput (32-11 ¼) and the discus (personal-best 92-0). It’s the second straight year the junior has qualified in the shotput. Damysia Walls of University (San Francisco) won the shotput at 36-4 ¼ while Samantha Britton-Dalson of Rort Bragg captured the discus (111-06).

Pyzer cleared 7-0 feet while taking third in the pole vault. Olivia Mills of University (9-6) came in first and Fort Bragg’s Jenna Curti (8-6) was second.

Just missing MOC berths were Deisi Perez of Middletown, who tied Cloverdale’s Annabelle Swartz for fourth place in the high jump (personal-best 4-6), and Middletown’s Cat Barriga, who was fourth in the pole vault (7-0).

Other high finishes by Lake County athletes went to Walker, sixth in the 100 meters (personal-best 13.08 seconds) and sixth in the high jump (4-6); to Clear Lake’s Kaylah Billig, sixth in the shotput (personal-best 31-3 ¼) and ninth in the discus (personal-best 83-10); to Clear Lake’s Hannah Garrity, seventh in the 3,200 meters (personal-best 12 minutes, 47 seconds); to Middletown’s Mia Hoogendoorn, eighth in the high jump 4-6); and to Upper Lake’s Maddy Young, ninth in the 300 low hurdles (personal-best 53.95).

Middletown’s 4×100 relay team also finished seventh (53.89) out of 17 teams.

“A lot of our athletes and relay teams set new personal records, which was the goal for most of them,” Middletown head coach Wyatt Hall said.

The Meet of Champions opens Friday and runs through Saturday at Dublin High School. The top three finishers in each event qualify for the CIF State Championships May 26-27 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
