LAKE COUNTY — Lake County’s two undefeated league champions — the Kelseyville High School baseball team and Upper Lake High School softball squad — look to extend their seasons Wednesday with home wins in the opening round of the North Coast Section playoffs.
Kelseyville
Kelseyville, 14-0 in the North Central League I this season and a winner of 14 straight heading into the Division 4 playoffs, hosts St. Patrick-St. Vincent (10-13-1) of Vallejo beginning at 5 p.m. at Lloyd Larson Field. The fourth-seeded Knights (17-5) will remain at home for the quarterfinals provided they knock off the 13th-seeded Bruins, the fifth-place team in the Tri-County Rock League.
The Kelseyville-St. Patrick-St. Vincent winner meets the Justin-Siena vs. Berean Christian winner in the quarterfinals Saturday (starting time TBA). Justin-Siena (12-9) of the Marin County Athletic League hosts Berean Christian (8-16) of the Diablo Valley League on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Semifinal-round games are May 24 and the Division 4 championship game is May 26 or May 27.
Upper Lake
Upper Lake, 6-0 in the NCL II this season and 8-2 overall, is the No. 8 seed in the Division 5 playoffs. The Cougars host No. 9 seed St. Vincent (8-13) of Petaluma, the third-place finisher in the North Bay-Redwood League where the Mustangs went 8-7 and finished behind Ukiah (15-0) and Santa Rosa (11-4). Game time is 5 p.m.
The Upper Lake-St. Vincent winner advances to the quarterfinals either Friday or Saturday and will travel to St. Helena to play the NCL I-champion and No. 1-seeded Saints (14-0 league, 20-4 overall). St. Helena, a 16-1 winner over St. Vincent early in the preseason, has a first-round bye.
Semifinal-round games are May 23-24 and the Division 5 championship game is May 26-27.
