SAN FRANCISCO — Upper Lake High School’s baseball season came to an end Tuesday as the Cougars fell 6-1 to The Bay School in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs at West Sunset Diamond in San Francisco.

Upper Lake, the North Central League III co-champion this season, finishes 6-4.

The Cougars scored their only run in the top of the third inning to briefly tie the game at 1-1. The Bay School (18-3), the No. 3 seed, pushed in front to stay with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tyler Collins went 1-for-3 for the Cougars’ only hit.

Losing pitcher Johnny Gozony worked the first 2 1/3 innings before giving way to relievers Collins and Kyler Brothers. Brothers blanked The Bay School over the final three innings, striking out five.

The Bay School hosts No. 11 seed Clear Lake (9-10) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. at West Sunset Diamond. Clear Lake beat No. 6 seed Technology 11-0 in five innings in another first-round game Tuesday.
