Longtime Middletown High School varsity football head coach Bill Foltmer was recently honored by the National Federation of State High School Associations as its 2021-22 State Coach of the Year for 11-man football. NFHS is the body responsible for writing the rules of competition for most high school sports and activities in the United States. The career achievement award follows Foltmer's 300th career win in 2022. He finished last season with 301 career victories, 282 of those coming at Middletown where he has served as head coach since 1985. Foltmer will be back for his 39th season at the school in just a few months. How long will he go? "I take it year by year," Foltmer said. "The group I worked with last year was one of the best groups I've ever had, so I'm still having fun." When it's no longer fun, Foltmer said he'll turn the program over to someone else.
