Garden Club Celebrates with Garden Tea

On Tuesday, May 16, Dana DiRicco Benjamin and Glenn Benjamin welcomed members and guests of the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club to their beautiful ranch in Upper Lake, for the club’s spring tea celebration.  The weather was perfect and attendees were treated to tours of our hosts’ gardens of colorful blooms.  It was like an “old home reunion”.

As the tea started, members and guests were seated at tables under the shade of the large walnut trees.  All of the tables were covered with crisp white tablecloths set with the finest bone china and freshly polished silverware.   Each table had artfully arranged floral bouquets and tea service.  The women wore their “Sunday best” and festive-looking hats that would have fit in at a Churchill Downs racing event.

No tea party is complete without the requisite little sandwiches and sweet treats commonly served at High Tea events. Garden club members extended their creative culinary cunning in making dozens of each and were relished by all.   At the end of the afternoon, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that we had all shared some memorable moments together and would be looking forward to the tea next year.

President Carol Dobusch thanked Dana Benjamin for her hospitality, and all members for supporting her through her two-term presidency during the COVID rules.  Ginny Cline has been elected the club’s new President and the installation of new officers will be a potluck luncheon, June 20th at the Scott’s Valley Women’s Clubhouse.

Membership in the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club is open to all those who have an interest in gardening.  We would like to share a cup of tea at our annual tea next spring, or during any of our monthly meeting.  Please call club President Carol Dobusch at 707 279-1169 for information.   The club is a member of the Mendo-Lake District of the California Garden Club, Inc.-Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Lake County Trail Plan revision update at Sierra Club Lake Group’s community forum

The Sierra Club Lake Group will host Lake County Community Services Director, Lars Ewing, at their next community meeting on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 6 PM. The discussion will be held via Zoom video conference and live-streamed on Facebook. The meeting is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required to attend via Zoom.

The County, under the direction of Ewing, is undertaking a comprehensive revision of the Lake County Trail Plan. It has been more than 10 years since the formulation of the Konocti Regional Trails Plan, and a lot has changed since then, not only for recreational users but also regarding things like bike paths and safe routes to school.

To register for the event, visit the Lake Group’s online calendar at: www.sierraclub.org/redwood/lake. Registrants will receive access information upon registration and a confirmation reminder the morning of the event. Zoom space is limited, so the event will also be live-streamed via the Lake Group’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sierraclublake.

The Sierra Club Lake Group represents more than 400 Sierra Club members living in Lake County and is part of the Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club that represents the northwest region of California. The group works to preserve Lake County’s wild heritage; protect and restore Clear Lake and its watershed; and promote smart growth, sustainable practices and environmentally friendly development. It also fosters a meaningful connection to the environment for the community to value and enjoy through guided hikes and community events. (Note: guided hikes are on hold while the group secures hike leaders. Those interested, contact Chair Deb Sally at enviracat1@gmail.com.)
