LAKE COUNTY — The All-Lake County high school softball and baseball teams as selected by the Lake County Record-Bee will be released early next week.

Both teams include most valuable players, a first team and a coach of the year. The All-County softball team will be featured in Tuesday’s print publication while the All-County baseball team will appear in Wednesday’s print publication.

Beginning in Thursday’s print publication, the Record-Bee will begin to honor its 10 Athlete of the Year finalists (five boys, five girls) for the 2022-23 sports season. A boy and a girl will be featured each day in random order. Later this month the Record-Bee will name its Athlete of the Year winners in boys and girls sports as well as Coach of the Year winners in boys and girls sports. Only juniors and seniors who compete in at least two varsity sports and are in good academic standing at their respective schools are eligible. Athlete of the Year is not a career achievement award. It’s based solely on what the athlete did on the field or on the court during the 2022-23 sports year. Grade point average and activity in non-sporting events are not taken into consideration.

Middletown athletes and coaches swept the award in 2021-22 as Paige Astley and Luke Hoogendoorn were named top athletes while G.J. Rockwell and Andy Brown were the Coach of the Year winners. All picks are those of the Record-Bee’s based on a year’s worth of results as well as input from coaches inside and outside of Lake County.

Public input on Athlete of the Year finalists is welcome. Send your comments to RBSports@aol.com or bsumpter@record-bee.com.
