High school fishing teams headed to Nationals

Field includes Kelseyville High graduates Gentle, Lyndall

KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville High School’s Joey Gentle, who graduates Friday, and fishing partner Tyler Bryant, a sophomore, are headed to the Student Angler Tournament Trail National Championships beginning Wednesday in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Gentle and Bryant of the Lake County Fishing Club recently wrapped up Angler of the Year honors on the California Student Angler Tournament trail, finishing with 779 points accumulated at tournaments held throughout the 2022-23 season at various venues throughout the state. They edged out Noah Nguyen and Tyler Peterson of the East County Fishing Club (746 points) and Landon Ford and Carter Martin of Vista Del Lago Fishing Club (738 points).

Jason Gentle, Joey’s brother, will serve as boat captain for the Gentle-Bryant team during the National Championships.

Kelseyville High School’s Payton Lyndall and fishing partner Kaine Navarro of Glendora are also participating in the National Championships. Lyndall also graduates Friday but will not walk with his classmates as he has already left for Wisconsin where he’ll be met by partner Navarro. Zack Ploeger from Nice will serves as boat captain for the Lyndall-Navarro team.
