KELSEYVILLE— On Monday June 12 the Ed Donaldson Education Center class of 2023 walked the stage, receiving their high school diplomas and crossing the tassels of their caps. After four years of hard work and major unforeseen interruptions, these 17 students fought against the odds to start their next chapter with high school degrees.
Graduate Adam Howe shared his experience stating “I think I had a really different high school experience than most. It was pretty good, I didn’t get to go to in school high school because of my leukemia.” His situation was best fit for the alternative online program provided by the Ed Donaldson Center. According to the Kelseyville School District website, the school’s mission is to provide educational options for those whose personal situations make attending traditional high school impossible.
“When it comes down to it, we just want to make sure every student can succeed according to their own definition of success,” their website reads. Howe’s advice for his lower class mates still working towards their degrees is to “Show up and get it done.”
Dr. David S. McQueen, Superintendent of the Kelseyville School District, delivered the “Certification of Graduates” speech enthusiastically noting “I deem you certified! You are graduates and may move your tassels. Congratulations to the class of 2023.”
The center also celebrated the graduations of the Kelseyville Learning Academy and Kelseyville Adult Education programs. Congratulations to the graduates of 2023.
