ANDERSON — The North State Modified Series moves north to Shasta Speedway in Anderson on Saturday for its second event of the 2023 season. The open-comp modified auto race will be a part of the Shasta County Fair festivities, joining the local Legends cars, Bombers and Hornets on the racing card.

Defending points champion Scott Winters of Tracy won the inaugural NSMS event earlier this month at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka. He leads Brandon White of Eureka by one point in the 2023 standings going into action Saturday. Sitting third in points is Eric Price II of Meridian, with Kylei Keown of Redwood Valley in fourth place and Kelseyville driver Sal Martinez in fifth.

The current NSMS track record on Shasta’s one-third-mile paved oval is 15.952 seconds and is held by Darrin Sullivan of Kelseyville. Winters, as well as the entire field, will be striving to break this two-year old record and to earn the O’Reillys Auto Parts Fastest Qualifier Award. Qualifying begins at 5:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

The North State Modified Series would not be possible without the support of Hoosier Tire West, Sunoco Race Fuels, Anderson Logging, Racer Bling, Mark & Sharon Baldwin, Doyce Eaton, Scribner Plastics, McMurray & Sons Roofing, Frank’s Radios and O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.
