LAKE COUNTY— The new director of the Lakeport homeless shelter, 27-year-old Christopher John Bloodworth has been arrested and booked by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office facing charges of inflicting corporal injury on his spouse/cohabitant/dating relationship, according to arrest information posted Wednesday by the LCSO.

According to arrest records, the Hampton Virginia native was arrested Wednesday afternoon and has been given a court date of Aug. 29.  Bloodworth was booked for Penal Code 273.5 (A) and held on $15,000 bail. The arrest comes in the wake of the recent termination of Yvonne Cox and other administrative changes by Sunrise Special Services, the nonprofit which operates the shelter under a contract from the County of Lake.

Law enforcement officials were contacted for further information on the arrest, but questions were referred to the department’s Public Information Officer.

The Lake County Board of Supervisors approved “the continuation of the proclamation declaring a shelter crisis urgency due to the current need for sheltering for those experiencing homelessness during the weather and temperature patterns that the County of Lake has been experiencing.” at their most recent meeting on Tuesday.

More information to follow as it becomes available.
