The Buckingham Summer Junior Classic Golf Tournament was contested on Monday and Patrick Seau of Santa Rosa won the event with a nine-hole score of 9 over par 45.  Held at Buckingham Golf and Country Club at the base of Mount Konocti, the Summer Junior featured four age groups for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 17.  It was a nine-hole tournament for the majority of the age divisions.

The 14-year-old Seau was in Lake County this week visiting his great grand-parents, Juan and Maxine Dominguez, longtime members of Buckingham.  Seau will be an incoming freshman at Santa Rosa High School, has been playing golf for just over one year, and has been taking lessons at Bennett Valley Golf Course from highly respected PGA professional Jim Knego.  He beat out six other junior golfers between the ages of 12 and 17.

The second best score of the day was recorded by Andy Zimmerle of Hidden Valley Lake, a talented 12-year-old who competes on the U.S. Kids Tour in the Central Valley.  Zimmerle, who won his age bracket last week at the Lake County Junior at  the Adams Springs Golf Course, carded a 48 to win the 12-13 year old boys division.  Max Stine, also from Hidden Valley Lake, shot a 52 to finish second to Zimmerle.  Stine won the Summer Junior last year.

Kelseyville High School junior Nate Sherman won the boys 16-17 age division with a nine hole score of 50.  His KHS teammate, Caleb Lopez, finished second after posting a 58.

Ethan Gambill, another member of the Kelseyville High School golf team, shot a 52 to win the boys 14-15 year old division.  He finished ahead of Francis Rivera of Lakeport.  Rivera came in with a 54 for nine holes.

The 10-11 year old boys competed over five holes but had to go longer as Lyle Valador of Kelseyville and Carter Wolfe of San Diego were tied atop the leader board with scores of 33.  Valador won the sudden death playoff with a five on the first playoff hole.  Valador and Wolfe are cousins and Wolfe was visiting Lake County this week.  Valador won the 10-11 year old boys bracket last week at the Lake County Junior.  Michael Dodson of Lakeport finished third as he carded a nine hole score of 35.

Sofia Arredondo of Lakeport made it two for two as she was the overall girls champion for the second week in a row, winning the Buckingham Junior with a nine hole score of 49.  She won the County Junior last Wednesday. Sofia was the number one golfer this past spring at Clear Lake High School and is headed off to college in the fall.

The Buckingham Summer Junior Classic was sponsored by the Buckingham Tournament Players Club, the Buckingham Women’s Club, and the Adams Springs Women’s Golf Club.
