Last Congress, I voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act to provide our veterans with the benefits they earned in service to our nation. President Biden signed this bill into law last year, expanding VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. Although there is no deadline to apply, I urge all eligible veterans to apply for Honoring Our PACT Act benefits before August 9 to be eligible for retroactive benefits from Aug. 10, 2022.

The PACT Act represents a resolute commitment to our veterans who have served with honor and valor. This new law was written to address the pressing need for expanded health care and benefits for those who may have been exposed to hazardous toxins while defending our country. Veterans who served in conflicts like the Gulf War, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other missions were subjected to burn pits and other toxic substances, which had adverse effects on their health.

Recognizing the urgency of providing comprehensive support, Congress passed the PACT Act with a bipartisan vote to ensure that affected veterans have access to the health care they require and the benefits they earned. One significant aspect of the PACT Act is the provision for retroactive benefits. Eligible veterans who apply before Aug. 9, 2023, have the opportunity to receive benefits retroactively from Aug. 10, 2022. This means that any eligible expenses incurred during this period can be covered, offering much-needed financial relief and support to our veterans and their families.

Applying for Honoring Our PACT Act benefits is simple and accessible. Veterans can visit their nearest Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regional office or apply online through the official VA website. Dedicated VA staff members are readily available to assist veterans throughout the application process, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience.

As we approach August 9, it is important that every eligible veteran is aware of the Honoring Our PACT Act benefits. Together, we can reach out to our friends, family members, and neighbors who have served and inform them about this crucial opportunity to access the benefits they have rightfully earned. Our veterans have given their all to protect our nation, and it is our responsibility to ensure they receive the care and support they earned. The PACT Act is a significant step forward in fulfilling this duty, and I urge all eligible veterans to apply before Aug. 9, 2023.

For additional information on the PACT Act, I encourage everyone to visit the official VA website at VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-MYVA411.
