LAKEPORT/COLUSA— The Clear Lake High School Girls Volleyball team is off to a good start in the young season, posting a 2-0 record with non North Central League wins so far over Colusa and at Anderson Valley at home this week. According to head coach Marcella Psalmonds, Tuesday’s victory was a big victory.

“That was a huge win for us because the last game of last season we lost to them in one of the state games, that was a big win, Colusa is always a tough team,” she said. The team beat Colusa 3-2 by scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-25 and 15-6. In Tuesday’s contest, junior Quincy Paarsch recorded 18 kills for the Cardinals and finished with 11 points and 19 digs. During the last game Clear Lake was down 8 to 6 but Paarsch helped bring the team back, she finished it out and they came back to win 15-6.

Senior Camrin Pivniska added 15 kills while adding 13 digs and 8 points. Junior Emily Gersalia had 39 assists, while Amber Smart finished with 22 digs and 13 points. Smart and Paarsch also had five aces in the match against the Red Hawks.

On Thursday the girls played at home and recorded a 3-0 win over Anderson Valley High School. The scores for that match were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-11. Psalmo said every team member got at least one kill but there weren’t that many digs because Anderson Valley is not as much of a hitting team, so the Cardinals just kept passing and setting the ball. Overall the team had 32 assists between them, junior Kaylah Billing had 6, Lindee Bingham recorded 2, Atiana Patino had 3, Violet Stewart had 1 and Halley Escalera had 3.

Smart also contributed 4 aces while teammates Pivniska, Patino and Evelyn Ceja had 2, 2 and 4 respectively.

The team played a neutral site tournament at press time Friday and will travel to Willits on August 24 for their first League game of the season, facing the Wolverines that day at 6 p.m.
