KELSEYVILLE— On Friday, the Kelseyville varsity football team won their home non-conference game against Sonoma Valley (Sonoma, CA) by a score of 49-20.

Offensive Coordinator Jeremy Linnell said, “Flores’ offensive line needs some love cause they were physical and executed well all night” referring to head Coach Leonardo Flores, who is offensive line coach, Alexis Martinez, Landon Johnson and Frank Cortez who went in for an injured Ignacio Pilles.

Defensive coordinator Scott Sanchez: “Jayden Teabo is figuring it out, and people are in trouble when he does. We have a fun defensive line who loves getting after it and tonight it showed”

Head Coach Flores said, “We started out good but in the second quarter our false starts stalled us. We made adjustments at halftime and began to control the tempo keeping their offense off the field. Kyle Watkins’ pick six changed the momentum and the spirit of the game. ”

Sonoma came out and struck first with a passing TD.  Kelseyville marched down and answered back with a 1-yard punch in by Max Hommer. The score was 7-7 going in to the second quarter.  Kyle Watkins ran in a 64-yard TD to put Kelseyville ahead 14-7 going into half. Kelseyville’s defense went into “lockdown” mode from 8:13 left in the first quarter to 1:32 left in the fourth giving up no scores in that time.

At the start of the second quarter Kelseyville had a 7-yard TD pass from Brock Barrick to Tyler Bryant to put Kelseyville ahead 21-7. Kyle Watkins them had an interception he took back for a touchdown increasing Kelseyville’s lead to 28-7

Watkins was the beneficiary of an amazing block by his offensive line to punch in another 40-yard TD run.  The score was 35-7(end of third)

In the fourth quarter Kelseyville went for a field goal on 4th and 2 from their 18 yard line which was blocked and ran back for Sonoma’s second TD of the game, making the score at that point 35-14.

Kelseyville s Max Hommer answered back with a 90-yard kickoff return TD.  Kelseyville had one more punch in by Anthony DeJohn 49-14. Sonoma Valley then got prime field position after a 15 yard penalty on Kelseyville and with 1:32 left in the game had a TD pass to make the final score 49-20.

In a 34-27 loss, Bryce Keener rushed for 28 yards on 134 carries.  Micheal Dougherty had 46 yards on 7 carries .Max Lee had a 40-yard catch from Mikimo Brown.
