LAKE COUNTY— William Roller has joined the Record-Bee as a general assignment reporter.
Roller graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in journalism in 2007. Prior to that he received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Central Connecticut State College and aspired to get a job as an ad copywriter, but said it was difficult to break in because few firms are willing to take in a beginner.
“I am interested in issues of labor conflict and the prospective UAW strike will certainly have an impact on consumers and
labor/management relations (as well as the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike.) I believe some of the biggest issues in the coming months will be inflation, especially energy costs, availability of potable water the proxy war In Ukraine of course and the climate crisis, especially as we move into the Hurricane season.
Roller added that some of his favorite stories to work on are profiles and features. “I really enjoyed covering the Lake County Fair and the Junior Livestock Auction. But one of my favorite recent pieces was covering the middle school chess championships at Heber Elementary School In Imperial Valley, California this past May for the Holtville Tribune/Calexico Chronicle Weeklies.
