Clear Lake wins home match Tuesday, loses Thursday on the road

CLEARLAKE— After losing to Cloverdale in 3 straight sets Tuesday night (19-25, 17-25, 20-25) Middletown’s varsity volleyball team (4-12, 2-5) came away with the win Thursday at home against Willits 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-10.

“The Mustangs played well tonight- definitely took control of the match and did not let Willits get any significant scoring runs,” said coach Vanessa Davis. “Much better than Tuesday nights outing where Cloverdale had control over us the entire night.

Stat leaders for (Thursday Sept. 14) game:

Beverly Fetters- Served 8 straight points in the 3rd set to seal the deal. She also had 4 kills and a season high of 6 aces.
Carly Johnson led are attack game with 7 kills. Mia Hoogendoorn came away with 6 kills 9 digs, and 3 aces. Makayla Mace had 5 kills, 2 aces, and 14 digs.

“Overall, we played much better tonight than Tuesday,” said Davis. The Mustangs travel to the CIVT small school tournament this weekend.

UPPER LAKE JV: St. Helena 2, Upper Lake 0

(25-18, 25-17) reported coach Fawn Rave after the junior varisity match.

“Definitely  wasn’t  our best game we tried something new the first set and it just threw us off,” said Rave. “(The) Girls had some little mistakes they just kept stressing on and it hurt us. They (St Helena) had a lot of good hits deep that we just weren’t use to and girls couldn’t adjust. We also didn’t get many good swings at the net. We have some things we need to work on as a team.”

Stats:

Amelia Specials 2 aces 5 assist, Alyssa John 3 kills, Ava Witters 1 Kill 3 digs.

Fort Bragg 3, Clear Lake 1  September 14

25-16, 25-9, 25-22, 25-13

JV score: Clear Lake 2-0, 25-27, 25-21.

Clear Lake  3, Kelseyville 2, September 12

20-25, 26-28, 25-23, 25-20, 15-12

Stats: Camrin Pivniska 15 kills 15 digs, Lindee Bingham 5 Kills 2 blocks, Atiana Patino 24 digs, Emily Gersalia 33 assists, 20 digs, Amber Smart 18 digs, Kaylah Billig 5 blocks 2 kills.

“After dropping the first 2 sets we rallied to win the next 3. They played with a lot of heart tonight and I am proud of them for that.” said coach Marcella Psalmods. “Our middles stepped it up big time and made some huge plays. It was both Lindee and Kaylah’s best game of the season. They were a huge key to our win. They had some big blocks at the right time.   Ati had a big night on defense. We switched our defense in set 3 and she was a big part in our wins in set 3, 4, and 5.  She led the team in digs. Cam was our anchor today and played the most consistent on offense and defense.”

Junior Varsity lost to Kelseyville Tuesday by scores of 26-24, 25-21 and 15-5.
