Thursday September 21

Middletown defeated Lower Lake in 3 sets-25-8 25-17 25-14

“The Mustangs had a good showing tonight,” noted coach Vanessa Davis. “We were aggressive enough to hold off any offensive attacks from Lower Lake. My seniors had a good night- both showing their heart and putting in the extra effort it takes to ear a win.”

Stats for Thursday’s match:

Cora Holley had 2 aces, 1 block, 9 kills, and 6 kills.
Bre Pyzer- 1 ace, served for 5 points, 4 digs and 9 receptions
Harley Holley- served for 12 points woth 4 aces, 4 kills, 5 digs.
Makayla Mace- 9 kills and 6 digs.

Mustangs are at Fort Bragg Tuesday night, September 26.

“The Mustangs struggled to do anything right last night,” said Davis. “(It is) definitely challenging as a coach to figure out why we are not working as a team. Back to the drawing board for the second half of the season.”

Monday September 18

Middletown won in 5 sets:

Match Scores 25-23 W, 25-27 L, 31-29 W, 22-25 L, 15-8 W

Marathon Monday night! The Mustangs won a 5 set match against the visiting St. Vincent Mustangs in pre-season action.  “The Middletown Mustangs definitely had their share of errors but prevailed with incredible defensive play and an aggressive attack,” said coach Davis. “Senior Cora Holley had an impressive night leading the way with 14 kills, 4 blocks, 6 digs, and 13 receptions. She was on fire at the net after being our for a week due to illness. Sophomore Carly Johnson a dominant middle earned 16 kills, 2 assists, 2 aces, and 3 digs. Carly is developing as an aggressive middle- I love seeing her growth! Mia Hoogendorn had a great night with 7 kills, 25 assists, 11 digs and 4 aces. Bre Pyzer,  libero, earned 2 aces, 19 digs, and 29 service receptions.”

Middletown at Upper Lake September 19

Upper Lake won in 3 scores: 25-14, 25-20, 25-21

“We came out strong. The girls were focused,” said Upper Lake coach Dani Gudmundson. “They were communicating, hustling, and playing as a team.  In the first set, Jaydyn Poe served 10 serves in a row with nine service points. She ended the night with 8 kills.”

Coach Gudmundson added that Ashlyn Wurm contributed with 9 kills and 5 aces. Jordann Gudmundson had 5 kills and five blocks. Aimee Schaefers had 8 service points and 6 blocks. Alyson Gomez had 15 digs.

Upper Lake at home against Kelseyville (Junior Varsity) September 21

“Tonight’s loss definitely  was a hard one,” said coach Fawn Rave following the match. “Kelseyville played a good game, my girls just couldn’t find the groove working together tonight.  Aba Witter did an amazing job covering the backrow tonight in the first set.  Trinity Kuecker started the second set with 7 service points we just couldn’t  keep the lead.”
