MAC presents opening of artist Michael Devine’s ‘Persuing the Ineffable’

Join the MIddletown Art Center (MAC) this Friday from 6 to 8 pm for the opening reception of the full gallery exhibition of Michael Divine’s paintings featured in his new art book, “Persuing the Ineffable”.

Michael Divine is best known in Lake County for the numerous murals he has created with his wife, Violet Divine, as TenThousandVisions. An accomplished artist for over 25 years, he has just released his second limited edition hardcover art book featuring work from the past ten years.

“I try to make work that explores what it feels like to be alive and be human in this day and age,” says Michael. “My artwork is an expression of the archetypes of the human experience. It’s a dialogue of our modern cultural and social landscapes with my own inner worlds and imagination coupled with my desire to create the most beautiful expressions of that interaction.”

Michael’s breath-taking work, with its sweeping vision and intricate detail, has been shown and admired around the world. The emotive quality of his work resonates deeply across the human spectrum. Many of these paintings are on public display for the first time ever and are featured in his newly released book, which will be available for purchase at the gallery. Several new pieces featured are sold and on loan and will likely not be shown publicly again.

His new book, “Persuing the Ineffable.” is a 226-page limited edition hardcover monograph of both paintings and drawings coupled with essays from Michael and other contributors.

The public is invited to the reception at 6pm on Friday, October 6 at MAC. Michael’s work will be on view through October 9th.

The public is also invited to join us at MAC on Sunday, October 8th from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for a Q&A with Michael as he talks about the work on display and some of the inspirations and stories behind it.

LAKEPORT

National Night Out in Lakeport tomorrow

The Lakeport Police Department is hosting the National Night Out Against Crime in Library Park on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 4 to 7 p.m.  This community-building partnership brings police and other government agencies together under positive circumstances. Lakeport first hosted the event in 2013.

“Together we can reduce crime and build a stronger community,” according to Brad Rasmussen, Chief of Police in Lakeport.  The department invites the community to join together for a fun evening.  “Get to know your neighbors and build relationships with your local public service agencies,” encourages the Chief.

One of the special activities to kick off that fun will be bicycle decorating on Park Street sponsored by the Lakeport Main Street Association.  Kids are invited to bring their bikes to the park. Other activities for children will be available, along with raffle prizes for children and adults.

Local citizens and businesses are sponsors and donors; over 29 partner agencies will be present with booths providing important public information and resources.

Among participating agencies are health services, animal care services, Sheriff’s Office/OES, Behavioral Health, Probation, Social Services, service dogs, California Highway Patrol, school district and educational services, victim witness services, disaster preparedness, PG&E, and City services.

The Kiwanis Club of Lakeport will be barbecuing hot dogs. Face painting by Chayo will be offered.

Everything at this event is free of charge due to a plethora of generous sponsors.

Updated information will be posted on the Police Department’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LakeportPolice/
